atomium focuses on collaborations between artists. this second release from the belgian label brings out a collaboration between two berlin-based producers releasing two astonishing house tracks. pm is composed by martin teysera (herencia, cynosure, 31377 records) and philippe liedekerke aka pipo vitch (atomium, hatchwork, toys for boys). >restless<, the a-side of the ep, brings some jacking flavors and twisted spacy stabs on the dance floor. the analog synths trace the line and you just need to start the dance : a classic club track for the end of 2013. >back home<, the b-side, is led by a monster bassline that keeps the groove locked while the guitars delightly bring your brain either back on earth or on another journey. this full analog ep is definitely something to watch out. bring it on and make some noises ! tip

label boss dj bone mans the controls for the 38th release on subject detroit, laying down a typically fierce, three pronged auditory attack. *what he said* tactfully yet forcefully treads the line between house and techno, cherry picking physiognomies from each side of that ever-blurring line and constructing something fresh but bristling with familiar subject detroit elegances. a favourite fixture from bones more recent dj sets, *i do* sees bubbling, arpeggiated chords simmer and swoop from foreground to background loosely as one solitary, remanipulated ticking hat keeps things in formation. watch out for the thunderous, doubled-up drum arrangement that crashes in to the picture out of nowhere! b side track *rhythm soul funk* is a genuine hard hitter and another that tiptoes between the old school and the nouveau.

next up on visionquest is the second single from wareikas righteous and raw wternal album. all little things, here in its club mix incarnation, is another example of the trios hefty musicianship and unbridled eccentric energy, where jazzy textures and pulsating grooves build up with a rising melody to the powerful vocal drop. on the first remix visionquest & nikko gibler develop expansive piano melodies alongside an elasticated bassline and vocal snippets. fred p reigns over the b-side with his raw, deep hypnotic reshape and warmed up spirit dub. this is a distinctly diverse remix package from a rich artistic source.

hot on the heels of bmm 002 comes the latest instalment of the birdsmakingmachine series – bmm 003 – a package combining their signature sine-bass laden grooves, steel drums and oblique melodies. >antonios swing<, as the title indicates, literally swings listeners into its rhythm with dark vocal snippets layered onto soft stabs and eerie melodies. >woodpeckers<, on the a2, takes a more linear approach, an effective dj-friendly tool that will please dancefloors in the late hours of the night/early hours of the morning. on the flip, in >silk road< we find a captivating, yet mysteriously funky minimal house affair that builds and builds until finally erupting following the break. the ep is rounded-off with >dead lines<, a broken themed galloping of bass kicks fused into moody melodies and reverberated far cries, resembling a genuine excavation into the depths of house music – another example that the birds are always trying to redefine the genres boundaries.

next up on !organism is italian techno purist vincenzo palumbo aka irregular synth - a producer whos unwavering focus on the dancefloor has shot him up through the ranks in recent years. his boisterous synthetic sounds come on labels like perfekt groove recordings and the likes of richie hawtin support almost everything he releases. here forest people are also enlisted to remix. another fine paring on organism! that matches the veteran skills of irregular synth with the soon to break through ideals of forest people.

incredible double a sided reissue on tiny early eighties new york imprint small axe. side a features the awesome boogie funk of *throwdown* by larry harris, a phat floor-filling monster which always changes hands for big bucks in auctions. on the flip we get another in-demand bomb - the sparkles *trying to get over*, a superb soulful disco groover with great vocals and synth hooks. originally released way back in ‘81 and produced by the strikers darryl gibbs, this killer cut still remains a firm favourite of many in the know disco djs. top stuff!

now hitting release number six, fly by night music serves up something slightly different from riccio (bosconi // super value), complete with a remix from craig smith (6th borough project), for its latest offering. this is an equally classy release but more of an obvious disco tip. coming in a press of 200 limited blue vinyl and a letter press sleeve, this is another boutique package from fbnm. the man behind the jungle way ep is italian riccardo zanaroli aka riccio, who most recently appeared on the widely lauded bosconi compilation bosconi stallions. a dj, collector, producer and record seller, riccio is a staple on the italian scene and brings plenty of louche disco funk to this release.

belfasts seven music returns with yet another 12 inch that sees the return of montel, a belfast house head whose rise has been nothing short of meteoric. first surfacing in january of this year, montel has graced many of the underground house scenes best imprints with his straight up, no nonsense approach to house & garage!

a 4-track package traversing house and techno. first up jour de fete, a reference to the black and white 1940s french comedy – perhaps a clue to mr georget… one things for sure this is toe-tapping house. taking its time to perfectly build up the progression towards smooth outbursts of wailing sirens. 6eme etape is another fine example of get-up-and-dance house, theres plenty of driving drum kick and jazzy key chords, nicely pulled back and interrupted, to drop back in again with a renewed energy. poil de renard on the other hand immediately marks out its territory among the german minimal and micro house space. strong, syncopated beats laced with chopped up whispers and unknown reverberations, this is tough! the 103 mix softens up the edges, a subtle underlying synth providing the mellowness – essentially your morning-after dub version.

lph whites latest is another made­for­the­club sureshot winner from label co­founder and ­owner jacques renault himself. if youve caught one of his sets around the world sometime this year, youve most likely heard the house banger? and consequently gone nuts. its impossible to resist the temptations of the bombastic drums, fat bass, chopped up vocals, and dubby synth hooks included within. a shining example of renault doing what he does best.

system status (david rendal) caught our attention in 2012 with his self released pistachio ep. his production stood out to us instantly and his musicality shows through in his compositions. tusk wax, giles peterson & ashley beadle have all been paying attention to his work over the last few year and this ep was an opportunity for us to introduce another one of his tracks to the dance floor.

for their sixth release, lets play house has headed down under to scoop up australias fantastic man, a second identity of dj/producer mic newman, with which the melbourne-based artist explores-and exposes-another side of his musical and stylistic skills. and the four original songs on the its essential ep most definitely mark a bit of a departure from newman’s trademark sounds: he has exchanged the thumping, peak-hour, hands-in-the-air chaos and messiness of hits like 2009s *sizzled sally* for a more refined and subtle breed of deep house.
